Qui (2022)
This work, born from the collaboration with three families who had faced a perinatal loss, takes part of a research that focuses on the role of the image in the perinatal grieving process. It consists in three mini-archives carefully organized in cardboard boxes, bearing the names of the children: pink for Gioia and Stella, blue for Gabriele. Every archive represents a photographic sequence built of images-associations, strictly subjective and personal, so that it becomes an intimate narration, based on the participants' lived experiences along with matured feelings and elaborated through photographic language. Printed on a simple photographic paper, the images have been fastened to cards with typed captions and numbers on the backside that set the precise narrative order of the story.
The subjects of the photographs had been proposed by the families, while the artist dealt with the technical aspect, trying to find a perfect synthesis between form and content. Many images are the result of the artist's experimentation with the camera. In order to create the third archive, the artist made and then photographed a series of salt dough casts of small objects belonged to the family members.
Every box features an insert with the brief history of the loss and bereavement faced by each family.
