Julija Tioli

Julija Tioli was born in Riga (LV) in 1984, currently living and working in Bologna (IT). Majored in Photography at the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna and later enriched her artistic formation at the audiovisual Professional Master program IKONA at the University of Bologna the artist focuses her research on the human/environment dichotomy, bringing about its both natural and social concerns by considering organic matter a form of transition and metamorphosis, capable of achieving symbiosis with a synthetic substance. Particularly interested in literature, theatre, science and music, she explores and juxtaposes reality and fiction, trying to combine different artistic languages and forms of expression. Every her work is the result of thorough study and experiment, often, though, based on evaluation and elaboration of archival material.
